Los Angeles is a dynamic and constantly moving destination that everyone must visit at least once. Everything thrives here and everyone is welcomed to this diverse city. L.A. has more than 30 neighborhoods rich with culture. While most only think about the 75 miles of idyllic shoreline in this city … do not forget about all the museums. Los Angeles has more museums than any other U.S. City. Wow, more than Washington DC. – that is remarkable. Are you a foodie or foodie wannabe? L.A. has a super innovative culinary scene led by some of the city’s most influential tastemakers. I know this for a fact since I learned about oaxaca mexican food in L.A. – not Mexico! This global creative capital is also the epicenter for major sports teams. It is time for you to visit this city which offers limitless possibilities for the over 50 million visitors it gets from people all over the world each year.

When I was in LA I visited many spas of course, but most of my experiences were at the great hotels and museums, so I wanted you to see below some new happenings that I am excited about on my next visit. Did you know that CheapOAir has a Things To Do in L.A. video. It is sometimes hard to find trusted advice, but has it right on their website for you and it is updated monthly. I just watched their new style video series called Things To Do, hosted by “The CheapOair Travel Guy” Beau Rials.  Beau’s background as an actor, radio disk jockey and infomercial host has given him worldwide presence. It has also caused him to travel extensively.    As a result, Beau is the perfect guy (The Travel Guy) to introduce the audience to little known facts and insights about the destination city. My goal is to one day to my own episode of this new monthly series – what do you think? This southern gal would be a great host for a series about Charleston and other cities in the south.

The first installment in what will be a monthly series focuses on the city of Los Angeles.  The show is available on the CheapOair You Tube Channel, and the CheapOair Miles-Away blog site.

As the temperatures begin to cool for Los Angeles, this city continues to buzz with many activities for everyone whether local or visitors. For those fans of art, the city is constantly really booming with multiple new exhibits, live concerts and live performances at places such as The Getty Center, The Ford Theatres and the Hollywood Pantages.  For those that love sports and those huge sports fans, L.A. has the most sports team franchises, sports events and sports venues than any other city in the world. That makes the City of Angels a game day haven for all those fans.

My Favorite Places in Los Angeles

See below a few of the standouts of my favorite places in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Things to Do

Pink’s Hot Dogs

As someone who has been almost always vegetarian or vegan my entire life this one was a surprise. One reason I loved it was because anyone and everyone was here waiting in line for the place to open even on a Sunday morning. Stars and tourists alike love Pink’s Hot Dogs. Also, it fits in nicely to a CheapOair’s Things to Do Trip to Los Angeles. It has great prices and a varied menu. Just look at this place in my photos. It just looks so fun!

The Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles Spa

At The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Los Angeles, wellness is infused with red-carpet style. From arrivals marked by a glass of champagne to spaces inspired by the golden age of Hollywood, this luxury spa captures the sophistication of LA. When I was there this was the first spa to ever offer me my choice of champagne, chilled water, room temperature water,  or sparkling water as I relaxed in their ultra cool spa lounge. You can guess which I choose – bubbles of each variety for me please!

I had the Signature rituals spa treatment  Champagne & Shimmer Body Treatment. They also have a full spa menu of massages, organic facials and men’s therapies, as well as hair, nail and makeup services.

Encompassing 8,000 square feet, the spa is the largest in downtown Los Angeles and features a couple’s suite, a co-ed sanctuary, a hair salon, a boutique and separate lounges with eucalyptus steam rooms and cold-plunge showers. Other offerings, like poolside yoga, complement traditional experiences for a quintessentially Angeleno spa day.

See below a comprehensive list of all the latest hotel openings in the area of Los Angeles. Also see new new arts and culture experiences, attractions, dining and shopping, as well as new air service and updates at LAX.

Los Angeles Hotel Openings

Fairmont Century Plaza (Century City) – Always one of my favorite brands. AccorHotels’ Fairmont badge will take over the landmark Century Plaza hotel in Century City when the property reopens as Fairmont Century Plaza in 2018. The redeveloped property will boast 394 guestrooms and 63 luxury residences. The project will also have 290 luxury residences in the project’s two new 46-story towers. www.fairmont.com

Native Hotel (Malibu) – Many have been chatting about this new opening. Originally built in 1947, Native Hotel (formerly known as the Malibu Riviera) was remodeled in spring 2017 and unveiled a modern new look inspired by old paradise charm. Thirteen individually curated king-size rooms make up this mid-century modernist retreat. Surrounded by acres of lush greenery and perched on the Pacific Coast Highway, guests are just steps from some of the most idyllic beaches in the world including Zuma Beach and Point Dume. www.thenativehotel.com

Nobu Ryokan Malibu (Beach Cities) –Suppose to also have some of the best food to of course. Nobu Hospitality, famous for Nobu Matsuhisa’s signature restaurants, reclaimed the former Casa Malibu and repurposed it as a ryokan, or traditional Japanese inn. The beachfront property has 16 custom rooms and opened in April 2017. www.nobuhotels.com

The Surfrider Malibu (Malibu) – Anyone dreaming of beach days? A modern California Beach House, inspired by the picturesque Malibu landscape and rich heritage of California surf culture. Personifying Malibu’s historic beach-town community, the complete redesign of the original 1950s-era motel has transformed The Surfrider into a contemporary boutique hotel that gives guests an unparalleled and elevated visit to Malibu. The Surfrider opened summer 2017. www.thesurfridermalibu.com

Waldorf Astoria (Beverly Hills) – We all know I love a good Waldorf Astoria. I am heading back to the one in Orlando soon. The Los Angeles area’s first hotel under Hilton Worldwide’s Waldorf Astoria luxury brand opened in June 2017 on the triangular corner next to the Beverly Hilton. The newly-built property, with Streamline Moderne design influences, is 12 stories tall and features 170 rooms. www.waldorfastoriabeverlyhills.com

Dream Hollywood Hotel (Hollywood) – Dream, Dream, Dream – The West Coast’s first Dream Hotel debuted in the heart of Hollywood on Selma and Cahuenga in July 2017. Designed by the award-winning Rockwell Group, the 10-story boutique Dream Hollywood Hotel features 179 hyper-chic rooms, unique-to-market dining experiences and an 11,000-square-foot rooftop lounge area. www.dreamhotels.com

Kimpton Everly Hotel (Hollywood) – I am excited to see what this brand offers. Kimpton Everly Hotel opened in August 2017 and features 216 rooms, relaxed communal spaces and effortlessly cool design. With its light-filled interiors, thoughtfully designed for comfort and ease, Kimpton Everly Hotel is a true celebration of its Beachwood Canyon neighborhood and the laidback California lifestyle. The hotel is steps away from the iconic intersection of Hollywood and Vine with unbeatable panoramic views of the nearby Hollywood Sign, Downtown Los Angeles skyline and the Pacific Coast. www.everlyhotelhollywood.com

NoMad Hotel (Downtown) – We all want to be a gnomad or a NoMad in this case – Sydell Group opened the Los Angeles outpost of New York’s NoMad Hotel in January 2018. The NoMad is redeveloped out of Downtown’s Giannini Place, which was built in 1923 as the headquarters for Bank of Italy (which became Bank of America). The 12-story hotel has about 250 rooms as well as a rooftop pool. L.A. is the first city where three Sydell Group brands are represented. www.sydellgroup.com/nomad/los-angeles

California Science Center (Downtown) – A new chapter of ancient Egyptian history will be unearthed to the world with the debut of KING TUT: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh, an extraordinary and exclusive exhibition celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of his tomb. Presented by the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, Exhibitions International, IMG and the California Science Center, the new immersive exhibition will display more than 150 real artifacts from Tutankhamun’s (also known as King Tut) tomb.
