If you have been following me for a while you know that the beach massage has been very illusive to me. Appointments have been made, but travel plans have been changed or Mother Nature herself decided for the day that I was not to get my most sought after spa treatment, a beach massage that day. So you see I have almost just given up, but now I have a better reason to stop dreaming about a beachside massage.
The Ritz-Carlton just opened a new resort under their Ritz-Carlton Reserve umbrella called Dorado Beach in Puerto Rico. This new mecca of hospitality also includes a new spa treatment that has just bumped the beach massage down on my list – A Treehouse Massage! Take a look at the photo and see if it does not take your breath away. Spa Botánico was designed to inspire well-being and pure relaxation. A five-acre sanctuary pairs local Puerto Rican ingredients with indigenous soothing traditions and a selection of personalized offerings to enhance tranquility and revitalize the senses. A treehouse is located in the midst of tropical trees where the trade winds waft through. Guests will find two open air tree house massage platforms where they can be renewed with a Ritz-Carlton Reserve signature hammock massage or a side by side Thai massage. I don’t know about you, but I would take either. Not going to be that picky! While there one can also enjoy their Purification Garden, Spa Treatment Pavilion and their Apothecary Portal.
After purusing their spa menu, I have made a list of the treatment that I must try if I ever get to Dorado Beach. I love coffee and my skin adores seaweed, so the Coffee and Sea Contour, the ManoSantas Apothecary Ritual (which includes daily use of the Purification Ritual during your stay, and of course the signature Hammock Massage in the Treehouse!

Paired with towering palm trees, expansive gardens, a private infinity edge pool and a spacious cigar veranda, the hacienda has been fully restored and modernized following a multimillion dollar restoration while preserving its legendary heritage and serene beauty.
Spa Botánico
Tucked away amid lush flora is Spa Botánico, a five-acre botanical sanctuary of pampering offering a holistic yet modern approach to beauty and wellness incorporating Manos Santos practices, ancient local healers often referred to as ‘Holy Hands’. Reflective of Dorado Beach’s lush surroundings, Spa Botánico blends a soothing natural environment inspired by these ancient Puerto Rican healing traditions, modern therapies and the finest quality of local botanicals to indulge the body, mind and spirit. Integrating the program’s environmentally-conscious philosophy into the building’s infrastructure, the Ambassador House is designed to adhere to the highest standards of the U.S. Green Building Council, with a variety of sustainable efforts including regionally-sourced materials, renewable energy, organic and sustainable finishes and furniture, and monitoring systems to reduce the buildings overall energy usage.
“As a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, the philosophy behind Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve is to immerse guests into Puerto Rico’s rich history and extraordinary landscape while providing an unparalleled luxury travel experience unlike any other,” said Herve Humler, president and COO for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. “Reflective of Laurance Rockefeller’s vision from more than 50 years ago of a natural sanctuary, the island is a combination of historical charm and metropolitan life blending serenity and a pristine backdrop – a perfect location for the Ritz-Carlton Reserve experience,” he added.
The guest journey begins at the arrival pavilion, incorporating stylistic influences of contemporary soft structures and lush, indigenous landscape. Framed by striking ocean views, guests ascend the luxury hotel’s entryway to the arrival pavilion consisting of multiple small buildings separated to preserve the land’s original trees. Connected walkways raised above sunken gardens create a tropical forest floor punctuated by restful hanging beds, so every view is of both the land and sea and a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor environment.
To complement an unparalleled luxury experience, guests are invited to revel in a magical social event at the iconic Surf Room, a newly designed reconstruction from the original Rockefeller era.
