Would you like your TEEN to just CHILL? Have you ever had one say to you “just chill out mom”? Teens know this phrase because they too sometimes need time to just chill out! With all the activities and hectic schedules teens have these days, they can also get a little stressed or just be in need of some classic relaxation.
This coming year we are going to see a continued explosion of Teen Spas popping up everywhere. They will take many different forms. Some will be full fledge teen only spa locations, while others will be a traditional spa with a special teen menu. The Ritz-Carlton has been adding teen services to many of their spa menus for some time now. The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas has a wonderful selection of of teen spa treatments at their seaside retreat. Also a lovely array of treatments exist for teens on the spa menu at The Ritz-Carlton, Orlando. It also includes younger kid options. This year the surge of mobile spa services will not forget our teens either, many of which will cater to our littlest princesses by providing them with their own twinkle toe spa parties.
Disney was one of the first to jump on the dedicated true teen spa bandwagon. First they started with spa services at the Niki Bryan Salon Spa at the Grand Floridian, whose popularity surely had something to do with the creation of a teen spa at sea. The Chill Youth Spa on the Disney Dream set sail in 2011, but the plans for this concept started way before the steel-cutting ceremony in March of 2009 at the world-renowned Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Disney had set out to design a new cruise ship that would reflect the glamour of the golden age of cruising during the 1930’s and of course they were not going to forget the younger guests. Teens are just as much a targeted guests as the elementary crowd. Disney does not ignore any part of their guest demographics, even those that do not have to worry much about height requirements anymore.
Thus, The Chill Spa was created as a separate spa for this energetic group on the Disney Dream. Here you will find wide variety of spa services and treatments that benchmark those in the Senses Spa and Salon. It is the perfect environment for teens to refresh, relax and unwind! This teen oasis is located just inside of the main spa, but with a design that separates it from the area for those who are in authority of these young adults.
During one of the inaugural Disney Dream cruises, I was able to take a peek inside this unique sanctuary. While there , I too was entranced by this innovative concept. Take a peak at some of my photos from both The Chill Spa for teens and The Senses Spa and Salon.
This innovative concept did not stop with the cruise line for Disney either. Later this in 2011, The Painted Sky Teen Spa at Disney’s Aulani opened in Hawaii. This rejuvenating 1,500-square-foot spa has taken it up a notch and also includes their own private entrance and lounge, which includes a yogurt and elixir bar, computer stations, and the most popular – a D.I.Y. mixolgy bar for perfumes, body polices and more. These teen specific spa treatments also include services designed exclusively for young men.
So if you have a teen, remember that they may not even know that a spa day is what they may need. Once you take them, I promise you they will be hooked. (I have some personal experience with that!) So, if you can visit a spa with your teen, so they too can Refresh, Relax and Renew!
