What are essentials?  Webster’s describes essentials as something indispensable, must have, or a necessity.
 
But this can change like the wind for most of us, especially gals.  Essentials for travel or holiday trip for me means filling a huge steamer truck with almost everything you could find in your local drug store and more from websites like Bloom.com.  But some trips even I realize a need to rethink my approach to the term essentials.
Last week I found great airfare and journeyed to one of the most hospitable towns on the US’s east coast, St. Mary’s.  Not only is this the most relaxing place I have traveled in a while, it also boasts the honor of being the gateway to Cumberland Island.  Here you will find 17 miles of secluded white, sandy beaches deemed America’s most pristine shoreline.  So what are the essentials for a day to a place that gives us glimpses into wilderness life, past lives of those with Carnegie type wealth along with wild horses too. Quickly I ran to see what I had brought along with me.
Recently I had just received my first order from Bloom.com, so I dug into my luggage to see what I may have tossed in for this journey.  I received so many freebies both full size and deluxe sample size with my order that I had yet to take a good look at them all!  It was a magical feeling to pry open a package and find way more than I expected. Yes, what a totally exhilarating feeling!  Bloom had made my day, but little did I know that it would turn out to be the answer to my essential dilemma.
As I ventured into my make up bag, something named Supergoop Everyday Face and Body Lotionreally stood out.  With an SPF of 30 and Parasol, I knew it would be a great essential for any day.  Being for both Face and Body means one less thing in my bag.  This product does the work of two, so I applied it liberally to my face and body.
Next I needed something for my lips.  When in the sun regular lipstick does not do the trick. The next treasure found was a full size LaROCCA Skincare Lip Shield with SPF 8 also from Bloom.  After reading about this multi-active lip balm, I am sure it is going to save me a few trips to the doctor.  This ultimate lip treatment is made with Hyaluronic Acid and Camu Camu to deeply moisturize and nourish your lips, while Mangosteen Extract and Brazilian Cha de Burge provide anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties.  Wow it does all that? LaROCCA Skincare Lip Shield definitely made the cut onto my lips and into the beach bag.
So I gathered up my new “essentials” along with lunch and plenty of water and off I go to tour the streets of St. Mary’s and the secluded beach and wilderness of our National Seashore Cumberland Island, which is also a shell collector’s paradise!
My day was spent exploring tall oaks dripping with Spanish Moss and 17 miles of windswept unspoiled white sandy beaches and dunes.  My most memorable moment was during a glorious picnic lunch packed by the Spencer House Inn in the gardens by the Dungeness mansion ruins surrounded by frolicking wild horses and their colts.  With all of this amazement around, it was nice to know that my essentials from Bloom.com had my back (or at least my skin) for the day.

When we arrived back in St. Mary’s, I felt like I had just visited one of the Seven Wonders of the World.  Yes I was tired, but so exhilarated.  As I ventured into our spacious bathroom at the Goodbread House B&B I was ready to view the damage to my skin possibly done during a day of both hiking and beach fun.  Amazingly my skin looked no different than if I had spent the day shopping at the mall.  I discovered no redness, no clogged pores and no discoloration.  My lips were even still moist.  Wow my new essentials really did the job.   My essentials from Bloom had enabled me to not worry about my own beauty that day, which in turn enabled me to enjoy all the beauty around me.

That night while getting ready for bed all I needed was to cleanse my face and spritz on a little jane iredale Balance Antioxidant Hydration Spray.  With natural ingredients like seaweed extracts, green tea extracts and rosemary extracts, I felt like I was continuing my day’s natural experience into the night.
