Reconnect with Travel
By: Ava Roxanne Stritt
Do you sometimes feel like you need to unplug from everyday life and just get away? I think that at times we all do. The cure could simply be to reconnect with someone or something that we love. That could be a family member, a close friend, a hobby or yourself! One does not need to travel far to feel a million miles away. Recently I explored two convenient locales that can assist in reconnecting you with many aspects of life. Each is less than an hour away.
If you desire a pastoral environment, the Inn at Serenbe in Palmetto, GA will deliver. It was dust as I ventured toward the restored farmhouse to see where I would lay my head for the night for some much needed solitude. At this moment it was as if I had just arrived at my Grandmother’s house for a visit, but alas, she must be on holiday, because Grandmother was not to be found. My nose caught a whiff of homemade cookies left on the nightstand as I grasped the antique doorknob to my room. After surveying the large comfy room, I ventured toward the kitchen. Here I found homemade pickled okra, along with other delectable snacks. Suddenly a gracious host approached inquiring if they could supply me with a beverage. Suddenly I realized that I was not at Grandmother’s, but at the Inn at Serenbe. The Inn has all the comforts of Grandmother’s (afternoon tea, bedtime sweets, country breakfast), plus all the luxuries of a resort (celebrated dining, daily maid service, pool & hot tub).
The serenity of the Inn gave me an inner calmness that I have of late been somewhat unfamiliar with. As I explored the grounds of the Inn and the Serenbe Community, my pace became much slower than usual. The need to rush had left my body. What fascinated me most was that I did not feel the desire to be connected to phone, the internet or the available satellite television. Without these interruptions, I was able to enjoy all this eco-friendly community had to offer.
The New York Times named Serenbe the “Sonoma for the New South.” Here you will find nationally acclaimed dining at The Farmhouse featured in Bon Appétit Magazine and the Hill featured in Food and Wine Magazine. My favorite activity while there was a treatment at the Blue MedSpa, which was chosen as one of the top spas in the world by Conde Nast Traveler. A reflexology treatment here made my one night retreat feel like I had been away for a week! With its many activity options, Serenbe is a perfect getaway for a day or overnight visit, alone or with others.

After reconnecting with the “Country Life”, my sights then turned to the “Big City,” along with a friend. A perfect city retreat is The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead, which features many package types including a “Reconnect Package,” that includes luxurious accommodations, breakfast and a resort credit. If there was ever a place where you did not need to worry about a thing, this is it! There is no shortage of “Ladies and Gentlemen” here to care for you with Gold Standard anticipatory service. I found out that you only have to have a slight inquisitive look on your face in the lobby to be approached with genuine concern. The location is convenient to numerous cuisines including the Spice Market. Their Southeast Asian flavors spark conversation and renew the taste buds. The crowning highlight of this journey to reconnect with a close friend was the famed scrumptious Ritz Carlton Afternoon Tea in the Lobby Lounge featuring live piano entertainment. If you adore cucumber tea sandwiches, the ones here are a hundred times better than any you have ever tasted. You may attend the Afternoon Tea whether you are an overnight guest or just there for the day. A visit here should be everyone’s new addition to their bucket list today!
Whether you choose a country excursion or a city excursion, both are perfect ways to push that personal reset button enabling you to return to you daily life nourished with renewed life. Reconnect today!
