Most girl love shopping and well, the best place to shop is in Milan. This mecca of style is sure to create awe in all female travelers, but there are many other attractions here as well.
1. Since there is no denying Milan as one of the fashion capital, start with the Galleria Emanuale Vittorio II, the most inspiring shopping “mall” of all time. Expect to see upscale stuff being sold. Other than the top of the line fashion and style, enjoy the glass-encased, airy haven of light which is lovely to behold, buying or not.
2. The Piazza del Duomo is the location of the aforementioned Galleria, and the Via Dante starts there and goes to Castella Sforzesca. Via Dante is the grand shopping street of Milan — the shopper’s heaven. Again, everything is expensive, but who doesn’t want a look?
3. The most famous mural in the world, possibly, is the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. It is on the wall of the convent called the Santa Maria della Grazie from the 15th century. Somehow, this masterpiece survived the bombing of WWII to become the restored global draw that it is today.
4. You must visit the La Scala, Italy’s signature opera house, the Duomo Square and the Galleria. La Scala Theatre Museum is a female traveller’s delight with costumes, instruments, portraits and Sambon ceramics. This theatre is the home of Verdi, Puccini and Toscanini, grand masters all.
5. A tour of the beautiful Lake Como is, literally, a breath of fresh air. Wave to George Clooney if he’s in residence, and learn about many historic people and events that you might not know of that are part of this area. We’re talking villas, ladies.
6. Take a tour of the Renaissance era Castle Sforza’s battlements. It’s a great photo op with excellent views from one of the largest castles in Europe.
7. Another travel option here is an Expo Milano 2015 open ticket. From May to October, this international exhibition on feeding the planet also offers trips to the Borromee Islands on Lago Maggiore. Isola Madre is known for its English gardens and 16th-19th century Italian art. Isola Bella also has impressive art, including Flemish tapestries.
8. The ornate Duomo Cathedral is even more impressive with a skip-the-line tour. With five million visitors annually, it’s a lot easier. This more than 600-year-old cathedral even has symbols of the zodiac and other pagan items. The requisite stain glassed windows are just a small part of the notable art in this church. Archbishop Carlo Borromeo’s tomb is also here. Go for the sun and the warmth and soak up the ancient art and architecture.
