Trang Underwater Wedding Ceremony
Trang, Thailand
February 10 – 12, 2014
Trang, known as a land full of love, is a charming retreat with its crystal-blue sky and emerald-green sea. Trang Underwater Wedding, awarded by the Guinness World Records as “The Largest Underwater Wedding Ceremony,” takes lovers to the depths of the ocean by arranging a traditional Thai wedding ceremony complete with a Buddhist ritual. The ceremony concludes with the couple signing a wedding certificate – also under the water. As the province’s most fascinating event, the Trang Underwater Wedding Ceremony is held each year around Valentine’s Day during the Trang Season of Love for couples, both engaged or married, to practice their love in the beautiful land of smiles. www.underwaterwedding.com
Wedding Registration on Elephants
Elephant Study Center, Surin Province, Thailand
February 14, 2014
The Wedding Registration on Elephants ceremony is held on Valentine’s day at the Elephant Study Center in Tah Toom District, Surin Province. The ceremony, known as “Sud Tae Ceremony,” is the traditional wedding of the local tribe called “Guay.” The highlight of the ceremony is the marriage registration atop elephant-back. In Thailand, it is believed that a wedding registration on elephants will bring about good fortune and prosperity to the couples. The couples also experience activities such as Bai Si Soo Kwan, a parade of a symbolic sum of money representing dowry, a traditional drum performance and Thai dancing. www.surinpao.org
