In recognition of their extraordinary level of commitment to making the world a better place, Minto also attained BOMA Best Level 3, which is a Canadian industry standard for green building certification granted by the Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada.
Minto Suite Hotel joined the exclusive ranks of environmentally-aware hotels in September 2012 after receiving the 4 key rating two years earlier. There are many elements that contributed to the hotel’s success in this highly competitive test, including their 100% smoke-free policy, as well as their participation in government energy reduction programs, such as Save-on-Energy. In addition, increased staff training in environmental awareness and behavior and the introduction of eco-friendly products and amenities also played a significant part in their accomplishment.
The Green Key Rating Program evaluates sustainable practices in five operational areas, including corporate environmental management, housekeeping, food and beverage operations, and conference and meeting facilities. As a result, Minto included in their operations recycling and composting programs, reusable white boards in conference rooms, high efficiency appliances for food and beverage preparation, bulk purchases in reusable containers, safe disposal of hazardous waste, or performing energy, waste, and water audits on a routine basis.
