Camping has traditionally been seen as about as far away from “luxury” travel as one could expect. Nobody really looks at the idea of sleeping in a tent about an inch or so from the muddy forest floor as a luxurious experience – but that perception is changing.

Travelers are on a mission to turn camping into a genuine luxury experience that’s so enjoyable it’ll make you never want to stay in a luxury hotel ever again. How are they doing this? Let’s find out…

High-tech RVs and fully-equipped RV parks

Instead of camping in a tent in the middle of nowhere, people are switching to RV camping, filled with loads of great technology and home comforts. A luxury RV gives you a plush double-bed, integrated kitchen facilities, and even the possibility of a hot shower – all in one place. Better yet, some of the newest RV parks come equipped with all kinds of additional amenities and features, such as:

  • Laundry facilities
  • Hot water pumped straight to each RV
  • On-site pools
  • And so on

It allows you to still have that outdoor experience, but in a more exclusive space with more modern comforts around you that mean you don’t feel like you’re missing out on anything a hotel might offer.

Private camping spots exclusively for you

Another way in which travelers are making camping more luxurious is by booking private camping spots. Rather than staying in a typical campsite with hundreds of other people, they move to Airbnb and search for exclusive stays where they’re the only people in the vicinity.

You get a private Shepherd’s Hut or small cabin that comes equipped with a hot tub and outdoor fire. The privacy and exclusivity make the whole experience feel more luxurious than if you were camping in a tent near loads of other people.

The rise of premium camping equipment

Despite the fact that these two previous points center around the idea of moving away from traditional camping to try something more high-end, many people still enjoy a luxury experience while camping in the middle of nowhere with their own equipment.

It comes with the rise in premium camping equipment, meaning anyone can now buy:

  • Solar-powered generators
  • Incredible camping cooking equipment
  • Blow-up luxury tents
  • Blow-up sofas and beds
  • Heated tents
  • Portable shower tents

Some travelers love the idea of getting a kitted-out Jeep or Suzuki Jimny and driving that around while setting up a tent and camping every night. It sounds very “traditional”, but the premium camping gear makes it a way more luxurious experience.

What’s happened here is that people love the idea of camping, but not the reality of being outside in a small tent every night. So, they’ve come up with ways to mimic the feeling of camping outdoors, only with loads more home comforts and luxury additions. Whether that’s through an RV, private camping spots, or better equipment, there are now loads of ways to make camping a luxury vacation idea.
