When you go on any kind of trip with other people, the focus is on the group. You have to try and agree on what to do, where to go, what you’re going to eat, and how to enjoy your time. And while you can all go off in different directions, it kind of defeats the point of traveling as one.
When you go on a solo trip, however, the focus is on you. What you want to do, where you want to go, what you would like to eat, and how you would most be able to relax and enjoy your time.
And for a lot of people, having the opportunity to spend some alone time – where no one could accuse you of being selfish – is just what you need.
One of the most accessible ways to travel solo is to road trip. Here’s a few reasons why you might find it health enriching.
You Can Connect with Nature in Your Own Way
That’s the kind of thing that makes a road trip ten times better than taking a flight or a train. You’ve got the chance to just head wherever you want, and even straight into the woods or up a mountain, if you’d like to.
And once you’re there, you can connect with nature in any way you feel is right. You can stop to smell the flowers, take as many pictures of the fields, get a sketchbook out, and hike back and forth at a moment’s notice.
No one is in the vehicle with you saying, ‘But we’re supposed to be at the hotel by 5!’ Just take your time to absorb your surroundings.
You Can Take as Long as You Like
Speaking of, the road isn’t the only place where you can take your time. Anywhere you’re stopping, whether it be a hotel or campground, is a place where you can go slow.
Indeed, if you check into an RV campground and hook up to the electrics, you can essentially set up a home away from home. Of course, you need to actually book the spot for the amount of time you want it for, but otherwise there are no limits.
No one is there to ask if you’re going to be moving on today, or if there’s somewhere else the group can go check things out. If you’re enjoying the sunshine, greenery, and so much easy access to the great outdoors, you’re allowed to set up your camping chair and sit in it for as long as you like.
You Can Connect with Loved Ones in a More Mindful Way
Because they’re not on the trip with you! That means you can reach out in your own time, and share the unique experiences simply because you want to. No one is going to feel like they’ve been dragged to something they couldn’t care less about.
Solo road trips can be incredibly healing. Take your time and do what you want.
