There’s nothing more exciting than the planning phases of going on a new trip. The booking is done, the tickets are bought and the plane is leaving in the morning. You get to go away and experience new things, enjoy new places and try out new foods that you may never have had the chance to try before. Going on a trip is going to be a game changer, but it’s only going to be worth it if you’re prepared properly.

Preparation for a trip has to include more than your usual salon appointments for tanning, waxing and getting your hair done. You need to have the right luggage for your airline, the best weather API downloaded onto your phone so that you can track the temperatures of your location, and you really want to ensure that you have other areas prepared and ready for your trip to be smooth. Let’s take a look at what you should consider first.

  1. Travel money. Do you really need to be reminded of this? Without the right currency, your trip is going to get off to a bad start from the get-go. You need to keep an eye on foreign currency so that you can ensure that you have the right money to get you where you need to be. You should check the exchange rates so that you get the best rate for your cash, and that means looking at more than one place for money exchange.
  2. Transport. Once you land in your destination, how are you planning to get around? Are you hiring a car? You need to make sure that you will be allowed to drive in a new country and you should also consider other modes of transport. If you’re going into Europe, for example, you might be ready to train-hop all around the continent.
  3. A place to stay. There are many ways to relax when you’re on a trip, but where you stay makes a difference. Whether you go abroad to stay in hostels, or you are camping your way around, you get to decide but you should book all places to stay in advance. Hotel resorts, for example, are a great place to stay but they’re not always the most cost effective option. Consider booking multiple accomodation types to make your vacation one you can remember.
  4. Chargers. You’ll need devices like your phone and your razor while you’re travelling, so make sure that you check the need for adapters. You might not need them but it’s always a good idea to get an extension power lead with the adapter for the country you’re visiting. This way, you only need one outlet in the right adapter to cover your usual outlets.
  5. Travel insurance. Before you go anywhere, no matter how long for, you need insurance to help you to stay protected. Insurance can cover you for a range of issues, both medical and those that really aren’t your fault. If you forget this and end up in dire straits, you’ll regret it later!
