Ever wondered how to protect your home when you travel?

Here are a few tips to aid in ensuring your home will be safe as you sip your umbrella drink by the pool.

Tip #1: Get to know your neighbors
Neighbors are great for that extra cup of sugar while baking a cake, but what about more? We all want an extra set of eyes (some of us need them for our kids in the back of our heads), but what if they could even be watching while you were away? Neighbors can do just that. Befriend your neighbor and not only can they pick up the newspaper and mail, They also can keep an eye out on your home. A retired neighbor may welcome the new routine for a few days.

Tip #2: No neighbors or ones you want to get to know? One word House Sitter
House sitters can be anyone that is game for a change of scenery for a week or so. They come in the form of aunts, uncles, cousins and those lovely college students. Many in the summer are very antsy to get away from their parents and have a little freedom.

Tip #3: Leave some lights on
Alternating lights can fool even some of the best thieves. They would rather take the chance on another house, than one that the lights turn off and on. Get a timer or have a day house sitter alternate them.

Tip #4: Just in case – have good home insurance
One tip is that home insurance can be the answer to all your prayers in case you do fall prey to a criminal while you are on vacation or away. You must protect your home while they travel. So check out a few options a month or two before you leave to make sure you have your home contents insured.
