I have often been tempted to visit the busy streets of Rome. It has such a rich history, but as one of the world’s most infamous cities for the decadent luxury of its past rulers, where better for a Spa Travel Gal to go?
In today’s post, I’m putting together just a few of the things I’ll be doing when I finally get the chance to take my relaxing break away in the Eternal City.
Health and wellbeing
For me, it wouldn’t be a true luxury break without a little pampering time, so I’ve been looking at the best spas in the area and for me, there are two stand out establishments. On the one hand, there’s the Cavalieri Grand Spa Club, voted Europe’s Best Hotel Spa. Describing themselves as a ‘Mediterranean Oasis’, their calming waters can be found in the very heart of Rome. Simply oozing luxury and opulence, it isn’t hard to see why this place has been given such an accolade, and you can expect everything from a hydro-massage waterfall, an ancient-bath style pool area and his and hers saunas, to reflexology, waxing and tanning showers.
On the other hand, you could go for a more rustic Roman experience at the Argileto Piccola Metro Spa. Hidden away between the Forum and the Colosseum, this far more intimate experience specialises in a range of facial and body treatments. Providing professional manicures and several spa treatments, this wellness centre focuses more on relaxation and rejuvenation. I love how private this place feels, but you can find plenty more spa options here if you want to take a look around yourself.
Places to go, things to do
Let’s not forget that the main reason for taking a break somewhere new is to explore a new culture and meet new people, so once you’re nicely relaxed and revitalised, use that energy to take a tour around some of the attractions this wonderful city is famous for. You could start at the Colosseum – the largest amphitheatre ever built – and see where ancient gladiators fought monstrous men as well as exotic beasts from distant lands. Then, you can move on to the famous Roman Forum ruins, where important government buildings once stood and citizens of all walks of life met to celebrate victories in battle.
As this is a luxury break though, it wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Trevi Fountain and the many high-end designers that surround it. Once you’ve shopped until you’re ready to drop, head over to the totally modern Piazza Navona. With a beautifully-carved central fountain, you won’t be able to miss this pretty square in the centre of Rome, bursting with cafes and bars on every corner. Then, why not round off the evening by booking some opera tickets from romeoperatickets.com, and listening to a performance under the stars at the enchanting Teatro Costanzi.
I hope you found this luxury guide useful if you’re planning a break there yourself – when are you heading to Rome?
