Kerry and Roxanne in the Rainforest in Panama

Are you looking forward to your summer vacation?

If you’re anything like the rest of us, you’ve made big plans to discard the shackles of work and jet off to some far-flung destination for a couple of weeks of sun, sea and too much sangria …

.. but is your annual jaunt abroad becoming a bit of a drag?

While it’s undeniably nice to get away from it all, sharing the beach with hundreds of other tourists from your own country is clearly not everyone’s cup of tea.

For many folk, the real joy of travel is to go far from the madding crowd and get off the beaten track by hiking the Inca Trail, exploring a dense jungle or even braving the Australian outback.

With this in mind, pack your suitcase, grab your passport and leave your vehicle with valet parking Gatwick before checking out one of these off the beaten track summer vacations for 2015 …

Go Storm Chasing

Although it’s hardly a relaxing vacation, spring and summer in Mexico, Canada and the US allows thrill seeking storm chasers to get up close and personal with fierce tornadoes and enough hailstones to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

It’s a far cry from relaxing on a beach in the Caribbean, but if you fancy swapping your bucket and spade for a 10-day tour tracking violent gusts of wind across country, it’s a vacation you certainly won’t forget in a hurry.

Heading to Burma is not a natural decision for most folk, but its popularity is increasing with travellers keen to sample its veritable melting pot cultures, its mouth-watering food and its breathtaking scenery.

While the big cities – Yangon and Mandalay – are the most popular, many tour operators offer trips outside of the urban centres, focusing on the Burmese countryside and the many nature trails at Inle Lake, Kengtung and Pyin Oo Lwin.

Breathe In Tristan Da Cunha

Famous for being one of the most isolated islands on the planet, Tristan da Cunha sits in the South Atlantic Ocean and is about as far off the beaten track as you can get without heading for Jupiter in a homemade rocket ship.

One look at the island’s website confirms its remoteness, as there are no package tours available for independent travellers, nor are there any hotels, night clubs or restaurants – which means it’s not a place you’d come to if partying until the early hours is your thing.

Now it’s your turn …
