spa treatment

The beauty & wellness industry is a multi-billion pound one, with products, treatments and procedures available to tackle any problem with every conceivable part of your body. You don’t have to spend your entire salary on spa treatments, but even your run of the mill massage or pedicure can set you back a pretty penny and once you start investigating luxury spa treatments or alternative therapies things can begin to creep up.

There is a whole other level of spa treatments out there, ones that cost not just hundreds, but thousands of pounds. It’s unlikely that many of us will get to sample these ridiculously expensive treatments, but it’s nice to dream.

For those of you looking for a rejuvenating spa day treatment or relaxing spa break deal that won’t cost you the earth, you can visit www.spafinder.co.uk, where there are over 20,000 global spas, with some great spa deals available.

Here’s our list of 5 ridiculously expensive spa treatments from around the world:

1. UMO 24 Karat Gold Facial.

The health benefits of gold have been known for some time, and back in the time of the ancient Egyptians and other classical civilisations it was used by the wealthy to treat a variety of ailments. This Japanese spa treatment uses a facial mask of 24 karat gold to slow down collagen depletion and also improve the appearance of wrinkles and imperfections in the skin. Of course gold comes at a price, and in this case it will cost you £350 plus.

2. Oriental Harmony Massage.

If you want a treatment that is holistic, leaving you relaxed and reinvigorated from head to toe then this massage at the Mandarin Oriental in Hyde Park is for you. Two therapists will simultaneously give you the most luxuriant massage of your life. A foot soak is followed by a body scrub and balancing massage before finishing with a foot and head massage carried out at the same time. It’ll probably be the best £360 you spend in a spa.

3. Vampire Facial.

In the world of facials it’s not unusual to have some pretty weird concoctions plastered on your face. From live snails to caviar and Asian nightingale pooh (yes, you did read that right) there are unusual facial spa treatments galore. But the vampire facial, brought to prominence by Kim Kardashian probably trumps them all. For about £1,000 you can have your own blood drawn out of you, spun in a centrifuge and then smothered on your face and injected under the skin. Why? Because it stimulates collagen and repairs damage to the skin.

4. HD Diamond And Ruby Peel.

Another celebrity spa favourite and with a £4,000 price tag it’s not hard to see why. A mask containing rubies and diamonds is applied to the face and draws out impurities in the skin thanks to the antioxidant properties of the jewels. The treatment will leave you with smooth skin and a glowing complexion. It worked for Mila Kunis, so maybe it can work for you if you can foot the bill.

5. Snakeskin Manicure.

Keeping your nails in fine form isn’t that cheap, but this slithery take on the traditional manicure changes the game. Precision cut piece of snakeskin tailor fitted to your nails are layered on underneath a tough polish. Because the material is organic no two nails will look exactly the same meaning that each manicure is individual. And the cost? £62 per nail. The treatment is also available as a pedicure though it is more expensive.
