DIY Chocolate Spa Treatment

chocolate spa treatmentWhen I travel to spas I love to ask what the most popular spa treatments are in different regions. Recently, Spa Therapist Alicia Yanez of the JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa says the spa’s head to toe Chocolate Body Treatment is among the most popular at her location. This chocolate spa treatment with moisturizing and revitalizing ingredients that include chocolate, vanilla extract and honey, the 50-minute ritual leaves skin deliciously smooth and relaxed.

Did you know that Mexico gave us the first Hot Chocolate? The first chocolate beverage is believed to have been created by the Mayas around 2,000 years ago, and a cocoa beverage was an essential part of Aztec culture by 1400 AD.[2] The drink became popular in Europe after being introduced by Mexico, and has undergone multiple changes since then. Little did the Mayans know what we would be doing with chocolate today at places like the luxurious JW Marriott Cancun Resort and Spa!

The spa has been nice enough to let us have a wonderful DIY Chocolate Spa Recipe that we can try at our own home spa! It is a Valentine’s Day treat or a way to refresh yourself today!

INGREDIENTS:
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 ounce honey
1/2 cup conventional cocoa powder
1 ounce vanilla extract
Moisturizing body lotion

PREPARATION:
1. Stir the sugar with 2 tablespoons of honey to create a uniform mixture.
2. Spread the mixture throughout the body in rhythmic circular upward movements emphasizing on knees, elbows and soles. Rinse off with water.
3. Stir the chocolate, vanilla and the remaining honey to create a homogenous mixture. Apply mask all over the body and let stand 10 to 15 minutes. Remove with water.
5. Apply moisturizer liberally for beautiful and hydrated skin.

Enjoy!

The JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa is a recipient of the coveted AAA Five Diamond award, and houses a 35,000 square-foot, three-level luxury spa that boasts spectacular views of the ocean and lagoon. Equipped with 17 treatment rooms, guests are pampered with various massage therapies, body scrubs and polishes, facial treatments and healing water baths.

Definitely a must for any chocolate lover, just to top it off I would add some Artisan du Chocolat treats at the end of the spa day to add that blissful decadence and ingest some of the goodness fine chocolate has to offer. Thanks for the great write up, looking forward to reading more of your stuff. nice blog!
