We’ve all looked enviously at a picture of some celebrity or other, wishing we had their legs, their bum, their abs… but have you ever wondered who other people would most like to resemble? Well, as this article from Hello!’s Full Story blog discusses, a recent survey of 1,056  people by  cosmetic surgery group MYA found that curvier celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce  had the most desirable bodies, seemingly indicating that our idea of what’s beautiful has shifted from model-skinny to glamorously curvaceous. But what about skin? Is our perception of a healthy complexion the same as it has been for years? And what can a jetsetter do to ensure our faces look fresh even after we’ve sat on a plane for 24 hours, spent too long in the sun, or generally put everything else in front of our facial care routine for a few days?

Let’s get started by looking at celebrities with some of the best and worst skin to find out what we want and want to avoid nowadays – all in the name of research, of course, not simply to make ourselves feel better! Having said that, let’s start with the worst…

According to Totalbeauty.com, Lindsay Lohan’s skin is looking a bit worse for wear with uneven pigmentation and dullness that California-based skin expert David Bank, MD believes is caused by “stress, smoking, lack of sleep and dehydration”. Dr Bank also believes that too much sun exposure has played a part in Lindsay’s less-than-perfect complexion.

Not only does Beyonce have a figure to die for, her complexion is undeniably beautiful, too. Making How Stuff Works’ Top Ten Celebrities Known for their Complexions list, the singing sensation once attributed her glowing skin to drinking lots of water, a good cleansing routine and steaming which “makes everything come out,” apparently. Her skin looks even, clear and unlined.

But what can you do to get your skin looking as good as any perfectly groomed and glowing celebrity? First and foremost, never forget the sunscreen. Choose a minimum SPF of 30 and make sure it protects you against both UVA and UVB rays. To keep your protection levels up, be sure to reapply as per the instructions on the bottle.

Look for products that contain retinol, as it is widely believed to aid surface cell renewal, thus revealing fresher skin. Avoid fad products that look good but have not been proven to give results.
